St. Johns church Konthuruthy was the father church or Kurushipally for the roman Catholics in the adjacent places such as in kadavanthra , Chilavanoor and Thevera. It was one of the largest congregation at that time .The feast of St. John were distinguishably celebrated by the large Chirstian community in Konthuruthy ,Kadavanthra, and chilavanoor .At the time of this festival there was a local temporary market poped up in the church premises and people use to buy and sell various domestic utensils from this local market .Things which were available in that market was local domestic paraphernalia such as mat,Spoon ,vassals and many more .Most of those utensils were made up with various local materials .For instance, the mat which were available there were made up with Kaitha and it is known as Paya or Thadukku and the spoons made out of Coconut shell and bamboo stick .
Different form of
Baskets were also available in that market
as per he shape these baskets were classified as Vatta kotta and Vallan kotta .It was dexterously
woven by he local people in Kerala . It was made out of bamboo stick and Coconut Rope or coir. Mansoon in kerala
were begun approximately a week or two
after the feast of St.Johns in Konthuruthy church .She kept those seeds in the fresh water for sprouts .The Mansoon season in
Kerala begun with a the Vishu
festival and it is considered as the First
Njattuvela is the Aswathy Njattuvela and it begins in the first day of the Malayalam month Medam or Vishu day .People considered the Vishu festival
is the end of the summer season . It is considered as one of the appropriate
season for farming . My grand mother used to collect various sprout seeds from this local domestic market for cultivation . Immediate
after the arrival of monsoon month .
She used to keep those seeds
in the fresh water for sprouts . Eventually
the vegetated seeds she used to carefully put it in the prepared earth .My
grandmother used to cultivate a variety of crops but different kinds of banana trees such as Njalee poovan , palayam
kodhan,chara padachi ,chakaravalli Poovan were predominated in her crops . Apart
from those she used to farm various crops such as cucumber ,chena,chembu,kachil bottle guards, snake
guard ,long beans, green hyacinth bean and many more . Onam is the spring festival in Kerala .At the
time of Onam all the floras in the field flourish with vibrating yellow flowers
